    feeding idea

i don't have a bp (yet) but the other day i read that they like gerbils more than mice, and i had an idea. if a gerbil would put up with the mice, you could maby keep one gerbil and some feeding mice (if you bred your own) in a cage together, then when you fed the mouse to your snake, it would smell more like a gerbil. do you think that's a good idea, or am i just stupid?

Keeping two different species together would just end up in a rodent war. Mice hate each other anyway, and if you kept a gerbil in with them, that gerbil and probably a few mice would end up dead.

Same with rats. If you put a mouse in with rats, they would quickly dispatch it.

    Not a good idea..

Ball Pythons that are well-established in captivity have no problems taking ordinary mice and rats. Gerbils cost more and are harder to breed(gestation is longer). If your snake gets stuck on gerbils, it's not going to take anything else, so you're stuck feeding those $9 gerbils for 25-30 years

i would reccomend getting a cbb bally pythons from a reputable breeder, they're usually feeding on mice or rats, so there would be no need for gerbils

    Re: feddin idea

I have to agree. I started on fuzzies, grew to small mice, grew to large mice, and now I've started on rat pup with out a problem in the picky department. Most bp are more picky when it comes to live or f/t not the type of rodent. Like every one said as long as its cb there souldn't be a problem ( but there's always that one snake that will make us all out to be liars)lol. good luck what ever you do when you get your first bp.
