Estimating a snakes age
Is there a way to estimate a snakes age? I am just looking to get a ball park idea - or determine if the snake is at least a year old?
I have a snake that I was told is at least 4 years old, is there a way to confirm this?
Thanks!
0.1 bp (julius - rehomed in 2008)
0.1 red tail boa (bianca - rehomed in 2008)
1.1 persian cats (morris [RIP 2016] & oscar [RIP 2015])
1.0 burmese python (strawberry - rehomed in 2008)
2.0 leopard geckos (quincy & froederick - rehomed in 2008)
0.0.1 mouse in the freezer (roger - no idea. hopefully i removed him)
1.0 bp (neke - yellow belly ball)

Re: Estimating a snakes age
?? What kind of snake is it? How big is it? Male or female?
Those clues would help folks give a ballpark age if the animal is a subadult. But once they've reached maturity, it's really hard to pin down any specific age. There are no visual clues that I'm aware of.

It is a male burmese python, the person I adopted it from said it was roughly 4 years old.

He is 5'11" - probably about 12 pounds. He was OVERFED. He was being feed 2-3 jumbo rats every two weeks. He didnt eat at first but he took a couple of huge poops and then was eating fine again

lol!!! i have a yearling male at 9 feet! 2-3 jumbos for a 5 11 burm does seem alot but if he was eating that he should be around 13+feet. instead of 4 years hes probably 4 months

I would agree. Between 3-6 months depending on what he was started on and how he fed as a baby.
