ok i tried to feed my ball for the first time
i placed the rat pup in its box near my ball's tub to "scent" the room as i had read here before. he showed a little interest eventually so i placed the rat in the tub and my ball flicked his tongue a few times and then ignored the rat.
i'm assuming he's just not interested in eating today so what do i need to do to keep this rat pup alive so i can try again tomorrow? what do they eat?

I would just kill the rat and freeze it. Less trouble.
Don't try again tomorrow ... wait another week.

i don't think you can feed a rat pup... if you just bought it from a pet store or someting, it should stay alive for around 2 days i think

Depends on if it is really a pup or not.
If it has its eyes open, can move around and is "aware" of its surroundings, there is a decent chance it will chew on food.
If it's eyes are closed, I've never fed them solid food before.
