I vote for female - but it's a heck of lot easier if you have a couple of them to compare and contrast.

Re: Help needed sexing scorpion
I think it has 16 pectines? Does that count sound right to anybody else...which would make it a male.
This might help

Thank you. I know you can count pectines, but i havent been able to find any info on the actual numbers for this species. Have you found a site that gives the range of numbers for each sex, or did you just count those pics and my pics. I know that for some species the range for male and female overlap, so if you are within a certain range, you cant tell by number.

I dunno, I'm thinking female--I think the pectines are supposed to be larger on the male.

Re: Help needed sexing scorpion
if i remember reading somewhere, the thingies on its underside that resemble "hair combs" are supposed to be larger in males to detect phermones left behind by mature females.the "hair combs" are smaller in females so my vote goes for a female but thats just a wild guess from what i've read.

Re: Help needed sexing scorpion
Check out arachnoboards scorpion thread. They have a really good sticky that is on sexing, complete with pictures. I think they use emperors for the pics. Other than that I can't help, mine are far to small for me to attempt sexing them.

I couldn't find a range listed either. I found some posts by several stating that larger than 14 was male, but I really don't know.
I don't keep emperors, so I can't give you a count of what I've got either.

I did find the range finally, i thought i posted it but i guess i didn't. I forget now exactly what it was but it was like 14-16 for females and 14-17 for males. I am sure of the 16 and 17, but the lower number i don't remember exactly what it was, but both sexes were the same. I assume the reason it is so hard to find is that it is more or less useless because of the extreme overlap. I guess I'll have to study up on the other structural differences then take go from there.
