quick question...
My Albino female had a litter of babys today. She was in the same cage as my other mom rat. well as luck would have it she left theis babies just as she left the last brood.
The other mom rat went to the nest (at the same time I was thingking if I should freeze the babies) I guess from hearing then crying, and grabed each baby one by one and placed then with her much older babies.
each baby is being fed now but should I let this female keep the babies or should I just take them away and freeze them?
The total amount of babies this one mom has now is 10 and no one seems to be upset by the addition of the new pinks.

Re: quick question...
oh she is no pet..... that is the devil of rats! feeding her is a chalange... you have to wear gloves just to feed her. I think she was abused by her formor owner. What gives me that feeling is the woman blocked my phone number 2 days after I got the rats, when i asked about her agression, and her care.
Mama seems to have this feeding thing down pat. She lays on her side and the older babies are sling over her side eating from the right side and the new babies are getting the left side on the bottem where they are warm. I just found mama removing one of the older babies from the new borns. she seems to be keeping them apart as much as she can.
I do however need to post some photos of the older babies... I got some odd and to cute markings on some of the babies.

Re: quick question...
The one with the white spot on the forehead is a female, the other hooded on the other side of the hairless is a female and the rest are male.

Re: quick question...
If the total is only 10 then she'll likely do fine with the litter. She may start to split them into two seperate nests but that's normal behaviour even for a litter all of the same age. Just keep checking the pinks and make sure you are seeing visible milk bands that indicate they are nursing strongly.

Re: quick question...
well every one is snoozing and there are little milk bloated bellies showing. the mom is taking turns with feeding now and has done as you said she might. The older pups are in a nest now outside the brood box and mom is with the new bornes in the box. She will feed the little ones first then feed the bigger ones. She will then go to sleep for a short time owith the pinks. this girl is a keeper. I might breed her one or 2 more times and then retire her to being my pet. I dont like rats but she can be a cuddly little thing, and oddly I like that.
