Question Can anyone review..."Pythons of the world vol.2" by VPI

I saw this book in person and it looked really good. It had some great color photos and was a pretty thick book. Just wondering if anyone has it, read it, thinks it is worth the $75 bucks! Are there other books just as good? Seemed like a great coffee table book and a good reference.

It has a lot more scientific information in it than most of the books I've seen. It talks a bit about ball pythons in africa and python worship. It does a decent morph explanation.

I also have The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley (The hardcover version). Both books are pretty good, but the complete ball python doesn't go into detailed anatomy or go into detail about sensory reception. Both books cover husbandry, breeding, and morphs.

Overall the Barker's book goes into a great deal of scientific detail (scale names with illustration, dissection pictures, microscope pictures).

Tim Bailey suggested to me that I wait for the VPI book that is coming out over the McCurley one. Is this the new one?

This is the new VPI book. Even though it's "Pythons of the world vol 2", don't let the name mislead you. The entire book is on ball pythons.

I think it's worth the money. Also valuable to have for the up-to-date husbandry tips. The Barkers are scientists as well so they know better than anybody what is best for their snakes.

Kevin's book is a really nicely done book that IMO puts ball python husbandry into "layman's" terms and is worth its value alone in just the morph pics that it contains.

Seems like VPI's book is written more critically and might take some time for the average person to digest all of the info they provide.

Get BOTH! You can never have too many books!
