    What kind of rodent diet?

Just wondering what everyone uses for feeder and pet rat food.
I am going to pick up a bag or Mazuri diet tomarrow after school and wanted your imput on it. Of course I will suplement it with various fresh fruits, vegies, and seeds. Just to add variety!!!

Re: What kind of rodent diet?

I use harlan teklad lab blocks.. great stuff!

Some of the mazuri formulas are better than others.. look to see if alfalfa is high on the list of ingredients.. rats can't digest alfalfa, so it's better if it's far down on the list, or better yet nonexistent.

Protein levels should be in the 15-19% range.. over 20% and you're risking skin troubles.

Either the rodent breeder 6F or 9F are good choices.

Up until yesterday, before we had to euthanize our pet rat.... we were using Beckys Mix, you can find it at the top of this forum, it is a sticky.

I was gonna make some of Becky's Diet but I would much rather have a pelleted food so they don't pick out what they do and don't want to eat.
Thanks for your oppinions and I'll let you guys know what I choose tonight!

Re: What kind of rodent diet?

Awww Jeanne sorry you had to do that but I know the old girl lived a long and happy pet rat life.

As far as what we feed, we use Becky's mix and kitchen scraps for variety (leftover salad, bones, pasta, etc) plus whatever I see here or there in the sale bins each week when I shop.
