    Angola pythons

Are there owners of angola python on this forum?
I'm considering of buying a couple.
I allready have basic caresheets off course but I want experiences of owners.
How is their character? What is the regular adult size? Night temperatures?

    Off course pictures are allowed

I thought that they were quite difficult to obtain, there are some great pics of ballxangolans on NERD's site (newenglandreptile.com).

They are kinda expensive... of course, that's in relation to a normal ball. now, if you're looking for a good investment snake that looks gorgeous, go for it.

Here's an ad on Kingsnake.com. These guys look beautiful!

Exotics by Nature has quite a few for sale at the moment and I believe both Shawn and Celia are members here...hopefully they see this thread and post some comments. =)

Btw, I think Angolans are gorgeous. =)

    Re: Angola pythons

Angolan Pythons are fantastic animals. They are truly unique and nothing like Ball Pythons as the common initial impression of them tends to be. When we first got Angolan Pythons, I was basically expecting just a slightly larger Ball Python. These little guys quickly proved me wrong though!

They are much more active and alert than your standard Ball Python. They grow to be slightly larger as well with adults reaching 6 to 7 feet long. They have really cool keeled scales that make handling them a very different experience. They never refuse food and aren't picky about what you offer them (live or frozen/thawed). They are also extremely easy to keep and I have not found ours to require any sort of special care outside of the ordinary.

I like to descibe them as a snake that is similar in appearance to a Ball Python although with a more Rock Python type body shape. They have a much more rounded spine/body shape vs. the "tented"/pyramid shape that you see in Ball Pythons. They seem to have a Woma Python type personality and make good use of their eyes/heat pits. When I open their cage, these guys are right there. Not necessarily in an agressive manner but more like "Hey what's going on? Do you have food for me?" LOL.

I thoroughly enjoy working with them and they are very impressive animals. Most people that see them or have worked with them, are of the same opinion.

Pairs are generally around $4,500 to $5,000 a pair. It's hard to find lone females although lone males generally aren't difficult to pick up.

    Thanks,
    Celia

    Re: Angola pythons

    Very intresting information.
Are they suitable for captivity in a rack system like my ball pythons with day/night temperatures 32/26°C or do they need lower night temperatures and more space?

    Thanks.

yes most snakes can live in racks but why put a 5000$ snake in a rack? show it off a little!
