    So...yeah

    Yay! another mites thread....

I went to PetCo today, happened by the reptile section (bad idea) and noticed that all of their snakes had mites. Ouch.

I felt so bad for one VERY beautiful corn (I think he's a blizzard morph, bit of a pinstrip goin on too...) so I bought him.

I was spending some quality time with him, i.e. picking off the little buggers, my solution until I get some Provent-A-Mite tomorrow. Only thing in, he's got the little bugger IN his eyes. WEll..around his eyes, under the surrounding skin....really abd or normal? I've never dealt with mites before...so yeah.

    P.S. Yes, he's quarantined.

Yeah, mites like eyes. By quarantine, I hope you mean at LEAST in a separate room. I'm not sure about corns, but with ball pythons, soaking in water helps to release some of the mites. When you get the Provent-A-Mite, spray a "trail" of it around the outside of the cage, and also around the outside of the cages of your NON-infected snakes. Mites travel. They are BAD news! I've read that if you see one, there are probably hundreds more that you don't see.

I recently bought a pair of spotted pythons from a trusted source. I discovered mites last weekend. I soaked both snakes, and found just one mite on one of them, and only about 10 on the other one. Treated their cages (10 gal aquariums) with Provent-A-Mite using newspaper for substrate. When I looked today, I was able to see about a 1/2 dozen more mites in the male's cage on the newspaper.

Be sure to watch your other snakes very closely. It might not be a bad idea to go ahead and treat their enclosures also.

Yes, in another room on the other end of the house, on a different story...(my boyfriend thinks I’m paranoid….

I was planning on spraying the other cage as well.

Oddly enough I seem to have trouble finding this all illusive prevent-a-mite (hence me not having it yet). Where can you buy it?

Doesn't look like it's going to matter either way.

I just went to go spray the little guy down with some Reptil Releif my friend brought over, and he was dead :/.

Looks like there was a bit of mucus on his noes, so probably a URI. I feel like such an ass I didn't notice.
