Mealies!!!

[Pork Chops N' Corn Bread]

Got 3,000 mealies coming next week hopefully. Just wanted to check that what I have set up is ok.
I have a 3 gallon bucket with a screen for the lid. Theres 4" of Oats, ground dog food, bird food, and hopefully some Chicken Mash mixed in. Not sure of the temps but I have a heat pad wrapped half way around the bucket. Wish me luck!!!

That sounds good, but you don't need a heating pad unless your house is really cold. I've been breeding mealies at room temps for a couple of years now and they do great.

Make sure they have a water source.. either fresh fruits/veggies or the cricket food/water bites you can get at the pet store is good.

ya i've done them in the winter without any heat... they do fine

oh and banana peels work GREAT. the mealworms will attach themselves to it to feed... and you just lift off the peels and pick off the mealworms when you need to feed! makes life easy.

just make sure none of their food moulds... mould is bad!

The basement is below 70 and the heat pad will keep it at about 75-80. I know the moisture deal. Any idea what kinds of random grains and greens can be ground into the mix?
