    what do you guys do?

what do you guys do when you go on vacation or something and cant watch your lizard? im kinda in a pickle right now because me and my family are going to Monterey this weekend for a couple days and i dont know what to do with my monitor because i dont have any relatives in the area that can watch him.

i was thinking i could throw in a bunch of crickets that would hold him over for the weekend and put a couple carrots, a slice of apple, or something to keep the crickets hydrated and fed so they wouldn't pick out the monitor. does that sound good?

any help or ideas of what you guys do is appreciated.

If you are going for a couple days he should be alright without a feeding unless he is a tiny youngster. What exactly do you mean by a couple days??

2,3,4??? I wouldn't throw in anything that could bite on him if left for a period of time. If you are truly going for just a few days do a feed right before your trip and leave plenty of water.

he will be absolutley fine if you just dump about 1and a half as much as you usually feed him in there right as you are walking out. make sure he has pleanty of water. and his lights are on a timer.

i give him 24/7 heat and light anyway so timers shouldnt be a problem.

I think it might be a good idea to leave some vegetable stuff in there somewhere for the crickets to munch on - i case they start nibbling on the ackies. I feel your pain though - I've got this problem coming up soon - the snakes are so easy to just go off and leave for a few days - but lizards do need more attention. They don't poop in their water do they? (My monitor does sometimes) it might be handy if someone could pop in and check poop/water.

no, he doesnt poop in his water. he does run through it and dirty it very quickly though. ive noticed that once the dirt settle's the water is crystal clear again because the dirt is sandy dirt from a stream bed. im not too worried about water. i think what im going to do is throw a little more crickets then i usually would in and just leave a little bit of carrots for them.
