Re: My Other Pets
Yeah Kane has to have that sweet face to keep me from killing him when he messes something up every day...

They aren't the easiest breed in the world to live with LOL. Lovely pets though, you obviously take wonderful care of them.

You can say that again... I've thoroughly learned my lesson about purchasing an animal without doing the proper research... But I'd never give him up, unless I couldn't take care of him any more of course, I just have to try a lot of new methods until something finally works. I recently bought a big dog cage so I can keep him in it overnight and while I am gone for short periods of time because he tends to destroy things when left alone. I still haven't locked him in it though, I just keep his food bowl in there so that he has to enter it to eat.

Re: My Other Pets
Kennelling is invaluable with a lot of breeds. They just tend to get into trouble if left unattended. Hopefully he won't howl and fuss. You might try putting him in for very short periods of time and just leaving the room or stepping outdoors then letting him out with a treat for quiet behaviour. Then extending the length of time slowly....might work well with him. He's a great looking dog but northern sled breeds are all high energy and usually big talkers lol.

Excellent advice Jo! This is exactly what I have done to get dogs use to kennels being an ok place to be, once the dog learns it is not so bad in there, they also tend to see it as being thier den and will go in there on thier own at times. When I brought Zeus home, he was started in a kennel, he sees it as his personal space, one that I dont let anyone bother him while he is there, even if he goes in there on his own to lie down.
Doing this for our Giant Alaskan Malamute was the best thing we could have done for us and him, this breed like huskie are also prone to destroying things when left alone... and can be quite noisy talkers who must learn that being in the kennel also means quiet time.

Re: My Other Pets
Yep I know some dogs that love their kennnel and retreat to it to get away from kids bugging them and so forth. Depending on how warm your house is, some folks will even put a blanket over a metal type kennel and make a real dark den out of it (not a great idea if your house is hot and you might be cutting back on cooling breezes though).
Gunnar our young pup is currently curled up on her blanket in her kennel. She's just been out for a play and a trip out to the yard for a pee, had a bit to eat and a drink and is now back in there with her toys. She's still in the housetraining stage and the chew everything stage so cage training her is a blessing for her and for us. Her cage is right in the middle of the house and near the computer so she gets to feel part of the household even when in her kennel.
Please excuse the gawd awful walls...this is a rental and this awful red is going to be a lot of work to cover over...blech!
