Corns now illegal in NJ??????
Anyone know anything about this?
The manager at my pet shop told me this morning that it is now illegal in NJ to possess or sell ANY morph of Corn Snake except albinos and a few others. Sure enough, I checked out the website for NJ Fish & Wildlife and they state that the following morphs are the only ones legal to possess and/or sell in the State of NJ.
Red Albino (Amelanistic)
Lavender
Butter
Blizzard
Snow
Creamsicle
Pearl
I don't understand the reasons for half of NJF&W's regulations. Are owners grandfathered in, or will they force people to turn in their now illegal morphs? In the case, what will happen to the snakes?

Well why could you own some morphs of corns but not others. I'm totally mystified? Are they only allowing morphs that are easily visual as not wild type so they can make sure no wild types are in pet stores? Total confusion here.

That is just plain stupid!!!!!!!! I bet someone who breeds those morphs has something to do with it.Why else would they specify only certain morphs?

If you read that closely it says "no pet shop or animal dealer may sell/possesse any other morph than those". Which means breeders and hobbist still can sell and keep them.

NJ's laws mystify me. This thing with Corns is very strange. It's also illegal to have Anacondas, but you can have Retics, Burmese and Rocks. NJ is also the state that banned the keeping of any and all turtles and tortoises. You're not allowed to have larval salamanders because it's too difficult to tell the difference between endangered and non-endangered species at that stage.
I've been trying for quite some time to get a hold of NJF&W in order to get permits for my own snakes. Apparently there's only one office that handles this. I've left several messages with them, firstly no one ever answers the phone there, no one returns my messages and now the system says the mailbox is full.
From what I've read, it seems as if the state wants you to buy only from pet shops here. In order to get a permit you need to produce receipts. I bought my snakes at reptile shows and the last thing I thought of was getting receipts!!

Well, in Georgia, it's illegal to own corns, regardless of morph. Any non-venemous indigenous snake to Georgia is illegal to own as a pet, but you can own all the indigenous venemous snakes you want!
