Re: Rats - Colors and Coat Markings

I love this thread! It's so neat to go through and see all the different rats! That one with two colors! I would pay a pretty penny for her!

I don't think I saw an Agouti Hooded so here's my contribution (sorry if I missed one!)

Re: Rats - Colors and Coat Markings

I was running through my photobucket and found some of my old pics.

Very young Seal Point Siamese babies

Three dumbo velveteens (all are black selfs) They just arrived when I got this shot, hence why they're "hiding"

    "True hairless" hooded

Black self baby (notice the black toes as well)

    Mismarked blaze, irish belly markings

    Dumbo rex albino

Re: Rats - Colors and Coat Markings

I am unsure if anyone has posted this yet so here is my female essex...Some say this gene is not dominant however her offspring have shown otherwise.
After crossing her back with her son (essex marked) the litters were absorbed.

    Tri coloreds?

Does anyone know if a tri colored rat is possible, I mean they're pretty close to mice so maybe then can get the markings?

Re: Rats - Colors and Coat Markings

I know I don't have anything like the colors you guys have, but here's what I've got:

A black one (female, not sure of exact name, but she's not a husky. Haven't checked her feet to see if they are all black, but I think her belly is white.)
Mostly beige hooded/seal point and black hooded

    Sorry no pics. LOL

I did wonder about something though . . . I've held back some female beige hoodeds to adulthood to use as breeders in the past (that's what most of my adult female breeders are now). Anyway, they started out as beige hooded, but they faded as they aged to seal points (if I am remembering correctly--in any case, they have tannish spots at the base of the tail and the tip of the nose). I noticed you guys had discussed this with the siamese, but has anyone else noticed the beige hooded ones doing this, or do yours hold their color as adults?

Btw, I don't really name mine, because I am afraid I will get too attached and not be willing to feed them off. Not as much of a problem with the breeders, since they don't get fed off, but still. LOL I did name the boys Head Chef 1, 2, 3 and the girls Sous Chef 1, 2, 3, etc. The young ones that I'm holding back are either Head- or Sous-Chefs-in-Training. haha

Re: Rats - Colors and Coat Markings

    OK, I got some pics.

I'm only guessing at most of the pattern names, so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong somewhere!

I'm really not sure what to call this female, so if anyone can help identify what type she is, it would be greatly appreciated:

*Note: as best I can remember, she was produced by two black hooded rats.

And this is the beige hooded I was speaking of in my above post:

Seal Point?, what my "beige hooded" rats look like when they're adults:
