Need Advice
HI! Im trying to start a breeding business and I was wondering what the best types of Kings and Milks would be. Which sell for more? Which would be easier to sell? Which is breeders favorite? Any input would be great. I do have past experience with Kings and Corns.
Thanks,
Patrick Crockett

Re: Need Advice
You can make money breedings just about any kind of king or milk. Cali kings and hondo milks are classics. You can also look into breeding some black milks since I really have not seen them around as often as they used to be. Pick the one you like best and roll with it. There is no point in cleaning up snake poop for something that you don't personally like.
If I had to pick a kingsnake to breed it would probably be a speckled king.....and I would like to get into an albino project with them.
With milksnakes, I would love a challange.....Louisiana milks. They are difficult to keep and establish in captivity because they are one of the smaller milksnakes (max out at around 22").

Thanks i'll probably roll with a black milksnake. Maybe even a Brooks kingsnake.

Re: Need Advice
I think another great pick would be Albino Tangerine Hondurans. The little guys are so neon, they look like you plugged them into the wall.

Re: Need Advice
Like Daniel said.. pick what you like! If you don't actually enjoy owning the snakes you breed, you won't have a good time with your business.
Honduran milks come in a variety of beautiful morphs that are quite popular. I love them, personally. I've got a het hypo female and am looking to add a hypo male in the future to breed them.

I don't like Colubrids much but the Hondurans are hot! But again, go with what you like!

Re: Need Advice
Black milks aren't that easy to find and considering how neat the color change is from the tri-colored baby to the fully black adult (and they are a big milk) I think they are a very nice colubrid to consider. Of course I have to put a plug in for the Nelson's Milksnake since we own one. They are a really nice milk and both the normal and the albino are pretty fine looking (our albino is almost freakish to look at like someone painted on a snake with day glo markers LOL). I don't know about all Nelson's but our daughter's snake is remarkably easy to handle, almost never musks, has never nipped and eats like a horse! The albino's retail online generally around $100-$150 from good breeders so that's a decent price to consider when thinking about breeding.
Here's an example of a normal Nelson's:
Here's our daughters albino Nelson's (only a couple of months old in this pic):
