    Re: Finally!

It might be! Still not sure if they're fertilized eggs or not, she might just reabsorb them but if they are... then yup, probably pre-lay!

    Re: Finally!

Thanks! I'm a bit nervous as it's all happening a bit sooner than planned (I should have guessed she and Neptune would have locked up before I got them) but it's all coming together! I'm trying to decide how to incubate the eggs, and I'll be jumping on getting Fed Ex Certified next week. Watch me run around like crazy only to have her reabsorb the eggs, lol. Better safe than sorry! I need to figure out all this stuff anywho.

I've read colubrid eggs do well at room temp (75 to 80 degrees) so I'm tempted to try this first batch focusing on just keeping them well hydrated in a plastic tub and vermiculite. Our apt is nice and warm, pretty much just the right temps. I keep eyeing those hovobators though... anyone know if it's possible to find one locally instead of ordering?

    Re: Finally!

That first picture of her shed with the eyecaps all flipped back like that is so cool Sheree! As far as a local incubator, do you know anybody at your local schools. I remember we hatched eggs in science class when I was a kid and used something like a Hovabator type thing. Also what about local farm supply stores...maybe they have something there for egg hatching that might be workable. Check with Jamie Glass or on his website, I know he made a really neat incubator out of a plastic cooler and I think that's how Gomez was hatched last year, so it obviously worked.

So does a colubrid swell up like a BP does when they ovulate or do their eggs just sort of all line up in a row down that long body?

    Re: Finally!

Thank you! I'm so glad I caught her, the beauties cruise around the whole cage in and out of substrate to shed, it's rather cool to watch and she has some impressive tunnels to show for it! Tricky to extract the shed though, lol. I'm so glad that's done with, I've missed her!

It's harder to tell a colubrid's swelling than a BPs, more subtle, like a string of pearls inside of her. When Dr. K ran his hand down her, he could count the eggs! Give or take, anywho, he didn't want to do it too much and stress her or damage the eggs somehow. I'd love to learn how to check myself, and I will, but for now I'm inclined to just let poor Ma-tsu be. I'm just happy to see her lovely face again! She's been so shy while waiting to shed! I can kind of see the bumps though, along the back end of her side but only because I'm looking for it.

Don't know any local schools... but I do know a feed store, it's where I got Unut, and I could check with them. There's also a big herp store in Mesa, but shipping might be worth skipping that air-conditionless trip and gas prices
