    Feeding mealies to painted turtle......

...as a treat every once in a while. Does anyone know if it would be ok to feed a smalle mealworm to my painted turtle like once a week or month as a treat. Would it hurt them? I think it would be good for a treat everyonce in a while if it is ok for them. Also, if they can, do you think it would need to be a freshly shed one (light colored). Thanks in advanced for any help.

P.S.- Does anyone know if there has been any studies done on this?

My turtles eats mealie worms, crickets, night crawlers and pinkie rats and pinkie mice.

None of them will hurt them. They have rather sharp beaks and will chew up the worms before eating them!!

Awesome, thanks everyone! My turtle is still to small to eat pinkies and nightcrawlers, and I havent really tried crickets since the pellets are cheaper and he/she downs them just fine.

Try to cut up the nightcrawlers...the extra protein will help it grow..

A great base diet is Reptomin by Tetra (I'm not fond of the company but that pellet is the healthiest on the market today.
