hi everyone i am going to get a bp but ive had many bearded dragons and have 2 at the moment. ive talked to many good beardie breeders in forums and some good vets that beardies lick to smell their surroundings and can ingest a particle substrate and kill him/her. reptibark,sand,calci-sand,reptisand,eco-earth and shells of any kind or any particle substrate is deadly to them.many people here keep them on playsand which is one of the worst substrates. not only can the ingest it and become impacted the poop sinks into the sand and is pretty much youre beardie living in its toilet no matter how much you scoop the poop out or change the substrate. alot of people want "natural" setups for them but why risk youre beardie living as long as a wild beardie 2-6 possibly a little more or have a solid substrate and let them live 8plus years possibly?in the wild they live on hard compacted clay so most of its substrate isnt loose. even if there is sand most beardies in the wild live 2-3 years..and why chance having youre beardie come impacted??im only trying to suggest using a hard substrate like tile, newspaper, papertowels, reptilecarpet or something solid just so nothing bad happens to anyones beardie..~m~
