Leucy Texas Rat vs Leucy Black Rat
I've been looking at both on this website and the only major difference I can see if the Black rat snake has black eyes while the Texas rat snake has blue eyes. The head shape is slightly different too. There was a note that the black rat snake doesn't get as big as the texas rat. The only other thing I've heard is the texas rats can be more nippy and harder to handle than the black rats.

As I'm really interested in acquiring one of these species I was wondering if anyone would care to comment on their similarities and differences. I'm currently leaning towards the LTR as I'm so impressed with the ones I've seen on BPNet.

I think you should go for a white ball python with black eyes. I hear they are super friendly!!

Re: Leucy Texas Rat vs Leucy Black Rat
Jo. On a slightly more helpful note. The tiny bit I know about TRs is that they are well tempered when CB and handled. I have a good pal that has both varieties and will be at his place tomorrow. I will ask him what he thinks and let you know on Monday.

Re: Leucy Texas Rat vs Leucy Black Rat
Well Jo, I hop I can help you......I have been on that website you posted before, several times in fact, and my snakes were sold to me as Leucy Texas rat snakes, and they do have a bluish tint to their eyes, and my female Definately has the unpredicatable attitude that I hear Texas rats have, so I'm guessing I have some cage tag changing to do for my two (tag posted on cage says L. obsoleta obsoleta),but I guess I'll be changing that. The species look almost identical,so indentification for may be difficult unless you have both species side by side to compare.... and the heads on my guys heads are pointier than the regular leucy black rat snake. Unfortunately, i have also hear of integrades between the two species and seen babies labeled as Leucistic Texas Black Rat snakes.....how confusing!!!!!! All I know, is that about 3 and a half years ago I saw a picture in a snake book of a pure white snake with blue eyes and I had to have it...I ended up getting a pair for my birthday!!! So, what ever species (or poss. integrated species) I have, all I know is i got what I wanted...and I loove my LRS, LTS, LTBRS, LBS, whatever ya call dem white snakes wit purty eyes!!!

Re: Leucy Texas Rat vs Leucy Black Rat
Yeah, I've heard alot of debate as to how pure the Leucy Black Rat line actually is.
I chose to go with a LTR...I prefered the look of their head and eyes. They do have a reputation for being nippy...but I asked Don about his LBR's that year, and he said they were being nippy as well. Worm is a sweetheart though...you just have to find a mellow young one, and handle it regularly, and it should be fine.
