    Eggs!

I got home from work today to find that my female cali king laid 3 eggs and 2 slugs. They seem a bit dry, and a little dimply. I put them into a shoebox filled with vermiculite with just enough water to squeeze a drop out when I squeeze it in my hands, and it's in a cooler heated by an aquarium heater controlled by a herpstat.

I shone a flashlight in them and I didn't see any veins.. does this mean they are not going to hatch? I wasn't expecting her to lay so soon. I thought it would be another week or two.

    Re: Eggs!

Congrats on the eggs April! Are these the first eggs for you to hatch out ever? Can't wait for that experience myself LOL.

I don't know about snake eggs but I know with chicken and turkey eggs it takes a few days (3 or so if I remember right) before you see any signs of the veining.

with ball python eggs you can see the veining right away, but i have no experience or knowledge of other snake eggs, so i'm not sure if the same is true...

    Re: Eggs!

I wouldn't give up too soon, even if you don't see any veining. It may take time to show...or you may just have a couple of "difficult" eggs. I've heard too many stories from breeders who hang onto eggs that look dead, but hatch out healthy babies anyhow. Ya just never know.

    Re: Eggs!

Best of luck with them. Maybe wait a couple days and try again. Either way keep incubating them until they hatch or just plain nasty.

They look and feel like giant ant eggs.. they're so weird. lol

Jamie I used your incubator plan and it's working great. Temps are very stable in there.
