    Plans for Kyna

Kyna is about 2.5 years old and a rescue we took in last summer. She's done amazingly well and is now just over 1,100 grams. Now on to my ponderings on Kyna's future breedings.

I cannot photograph her properly...very frustrating! The following pics don't show her colors as well as I'd like. She's got this olive tone to her that none of our other snakes have. She reflects back green if she's put on anything green toned (especially on the grass)...hope that makes sense. She also has this band of yellow coming off her belly all along her sides. It's not gold, or brownish yellow...it's pure lemon yellow? As well she has a few wierd single scales on her upper body that are again....pure lemony yellow...just a few scattered here or there???

Now I know Kyna is just a normal, that's a given but I'm wondering with this lemon yellow going on if we should plan to one day breed her to a lemon pastel male. Would her colors help to enhance the lemon pastel or do the normal females really have anything much to do with what morph you mate them with?

I adore Kyna, she's a lovely good natured, highly inquisitive female BP (some of you will remember her as "Punkin" LOL). I've just always thought she looked so different from the other snakes we have and wondered if I should be making plans for her to take advantage of her difference.

Here's some shots of Kyna but as I say I don't have the skills or the camera to properly catch her right. Her yellow always seems to wash right out in photo's yet in person it's so bright and obvious that even our non-snake owning friends often comment on how different she is.

    Look I caught Mike!!!!!

Best I can do to try and show the yellow, but still not a good photo *sigh*

Just a shot of her hunting.....one of my favorite photo's of her!

Nice looking big girl Jo. If I had the opportunity, I would breed her to a Mojave, to see if that green tint would enhance the babies. Just my opinion. However, I think breeding to a pastel would also make some pretty babies.

    She's beautiful!

I think pastel would be nice. Here nice yellows and clean pattern would really make a pastel "pop"

It's so hard to do snakes justice with cameras... All the gorgeous subtleties... that said, she looks lovely

Thanks everyone for the input and the nice compliments on Ky. I'll have to dig out the old photo's of her from last summer. She's grown so much this past year it just astounds me. She used to be the same size as Rionach who is a full year younger, now Kyna makes Ri look tiny LOL.

I like the loks of her. I am not that educated on the genetics aspect of color traits, but I would guess that since she does have that specialness to her coloring, it could enhance her offspring The yellow on her sides reminds me of how my female Bela looks; I got fed up and gave up on photographing this though, lol.
I like her; you could not go wrong breeding her
