cat grass - yea or nay?
I have 3 cats, all indoor. they have never been outside since I got them except in the cage for vet visits. I have no intention of EVER letting them be even semi-outdiir cats.
so my question is this - you see all kinds of adds for Special Diet cat food and such because they arent getting certain nutrients from eating grass like they would do normally as an outside cat. is this true, and if so can cat grass grown in the home work?
I know every time I come in the house with fresh cut grass clippings on my feet, they dive bomb me and I cant even move to get the stuff off of me lol
so is it a good idea for indoor cats to have something like the cat grass, or does it not even matter?
thanks

Re: cat grass - yea or nay?
I've known people that grew catnip inside and their cats loved it. They actually did it to keep the kitties out of the houseplants and boy it worked. Can't hurt to try and see if your cats enjoy it.

Grass in general has a few things that are good for your cat. it has natrual iodines in it and it is very good for the digestion.
I use it for a cat that has a thing simular to IBS in humans and it hels her alot.
Another thing that helps in the digestion for cats is the brine from veggies in a can. Give it to them each day and you wont get alot of hairballs and such on your carpet or god forbid between your toes as you walk blindly in the toilet in the middle of the night.........lol
I grow it in threes. One they eat now one they ate and one almost ready to eat. The grass grows on well if given a rest period.
Hope this helped,

Cats love it. Helps divert their attention from other houseplants too.

Re: cat grass - yea or nay?
Most of the "catgrass" sold in places like Petsmart is actually nothing more than rye. Get rye seed(with NO pesticides Herbacides etc, ask first!!!!) and grow your own it comes up really fast. Look at local feed stores to find it super cheap. I used to but it in 50 lb bags for seeding my pasture with, and it cost me like... $10.
Easy to grow, fast growing and all.
Personally I think the cat doesn't NEED it, but it is good to give them something new to chew that isn't say.. an electric cord.

Re: cat grass - yea or nay?
I've bought some for time to time...my boys would DEVOUR it. But meh...I get lazy so I've never gotten serious about getting more.
House plants would have far greater to fear than cats....me. I'm outlawed from plant nurserys in 5 states..."plant killer!"
