    Scorpions

Thinking of getting an emperor scorpion. Any suggestions on enclosures?

    Re: Scorpions

I just keep one in a 12qt container(with lid of course, LoL), substrate is fine shredded sphagnum peat moss combined with cypress mulch and some bed-a-beast. Have a small mayonnaise jar lid for water and a buried half log for a hide. There is a small(3-4") branch in there for him/her to climb on. Fed every few days on crickets, june bugs(since we don't spray often enough to hurt anything and only on ant piles), roaches, etc. They like being misted. Substrate should be moist, but allowed to dry a bit before you moisten it again. They like a bit of heat, around high 80's for a warm spot and room temp for the other side of the enclosure is fine.

    Hope that helped a bit!

    Re: Scorpions

I just got 5 of them about a week and a half ago. My guys are babies, and are about 3/4 of an inch long. I have them in a Critter Tote that is 11.75" Lx 7.625:W x 8.0" H, along with two small hides, one large hide and a water dish. So far no problems in finding places to curl up and sleep, and no problem finding prey, I've been feeding them 15 to 20 1/4" crix once a week.
What size are you planning on getting? That will make a big difference.

Btw, if you want to get more than one, make sure they're the same size. If they differ too greatly in size, they may cannabilze or otherwise "torment" each other.

If you really wanted to go the tank route, you could probably keep one in a 5.5 gal.

(However, I don't keep emperors..so take it as you will.)
