    California King

I know this is the "field herping" forum and technically I found this guy under the car in my driveway, but I didn't see a forum for "driveway herping"

He was actually pretty mellow for a wild CK. So far this year we've seen two Sharp Tails, a Pacific Gopher, and now this guy. We handled him for about 5 minutes then let him go in some Manzanita in the backyard. Very cool snakes...

very cool king, they're awesome. it seems like there's been a lot of snakes this year. weve already see 3 western rattle snakes, 3 garter snakes (including one eating a frog), and 2 gophers, one was last sunday when we were coming home from our property and we saw a 5 foot gopher on the road by some blackberry bushes on the way out to the main road.

I wish. I just got back from the desert about 3 weeks ago. The only cool herp I found was a young Chuckwalla. I'll try again this Fall when I go to Anza Borrego, but hopefully it won't be too late in the season.

What a great find! Good thing you saw him before you might have hit him.

I hope I never do something like that. I'm usually in "snake mode" whenever it warms up around here and will avoid the occasional stick in the road on the odd chance that it will be a snake. I keep a snake hook and sack in the trunk in case I have to relocate one away from the road. Besides, I think my kids would disown me if the found out I accidentally hit a snake.
