    Turtle Dock Ideas From Scraps

Hi, I need some turtle dock ideas from stuff that i can find around the house for about 2" of water. I thought about wood, but that would mold, i have tried other things but they mostly float. I already have one dock under the basking light but would like to make another one so he,she can get out of the water without having to be under the basking light if he,she doesnt want heat. I have many scraps of things around the house like bricks, and so on. I have looked around my house for large rocks but cant find any. I do not have the money to buy another dock like i have right now so any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Turtle Dock Ideas From Scraps

Do you all ready have a turtle dock? If so would this one be going into the same tank as your current dock?

Idea 1: Several flat rocks. Just stack them up until it reaches the desired height.

Idea 2: Build a "Turtle Bar" (not to substitute for a dock). I have built one for mine, and the use it as a rest. They do not actually leave the water but, half way perch on it. Here's how I did it:

Supplies (Available at Home Depot or Lowes):

    1) 3/4 inch PVC Pipe or tubing
    2) Old heater holder, or radar detector holder
    3) Adhesive bath stickers (for traction). These are the same things that you stick on the bottom of your tub or shower to prevent slipping
    4) Aquarium Silicone

Here is the step by step process:

    1) Cut the PVC or tubing to the desired length
    2) Cut the bath stickers to the desired size. The bath stickers often come in odd shapes like footprints, flowers, or whatever. Be sure to leave the backing on the stickers at this point. You will expose the adhesive part later on.
    3) Shape the bath stickers around the tubing and wrap rubber bands so that they form around the tubing.
    4) Let tubing sit for 24 hours.
    5) Remove the rubber bands. Once the bath stickers have the shape and bend of the tubing, place a small amount of aquarium silicone around the edge of the bath stickers, press them firmly in the desired areas, and place the rubber bands back around the tubing (as in step 3)
    6) Allow 48 hours to dry
    7) Once dry, remove the rubber bands and place the tubing in the heater holder
    8) Attach to the side of the tank

    Here is a Pic:

    Hopes this helps!

Yes, i already have one dock in there under the basking lamp, but figured he might like another one not under direct heat.
Thanks for the idea, that is awesome!!!
