saw an ad in the classifieds

"No PhotoSnakeMilwaukeeNot sure what kind, said to be bermeise python, but its so skinny. its about 1ft and a half long.Son doesn't want it anymore, so I would like to find a good home for it. i am not a snake person. It will come with the tank."

Saw this in my companys classifieds.
I am honestly interested in helping this women out. If anything only untill this snake is in good condition and able to go to another home who would be interested in a snake that will grow that large.

I read the care sheet for a burmese and talked to dan about it. He said we would be willing to take a look at it. If its in terrible condition I would be torn between getting the snake to just get it off this ladies hands and try to help get it healthy and then not getting the snake since it could be half dead.
I am not paying $50 for the snake, esp since god knows what could be wrong with it and I wouldnt use the tank anyways. I would end up using a plastic rubbermaid container.

What do you think I should do?
and if I do take in this burmese what are some tips you have for me as far as careing for a skinny snake and so on.

    Thanks you guys!

At a foot and a half, it will be no problem. However, it is not easy to find homes for Burms once they get big. Be prepared to be stuck with a massive (10-15FT long and in excess of 100lbs) snake that needs an 8ft (minimum) enclosure, multiple people to handle, eats rabbits and craps like a clydesdale. As far as tips if you do take it in. Give it a week to settle in, then get it right to a vet. Practice strict quarantine from your other snakes. After that, its just a matter of starting slowly with small prey items and building up to an appropriate weekly meal. Best of luck.

Burms are a huge commitment.. if it's a male it might top out at 100lbs.. if female.. well the sky's the limit.. over 200lbs isn't uncommon. The largest snake in the world is a burm.. 403lbs.

Know what you're in for. It won't stay small. Mine isn't even a year old yet and he's 6' long.
