Breeding plans and questions
i currently have 2 normal females and i will prchase a male pastel this year to breed to my females in the future. so i went on line looking for information in breeding. i came across Adam's journal in 8ballpythons.com and saw that he changed his tempreatures and light cycles for breeding season. so my question is...
What do i need to have the appropiate(sp) heat and light cycle for my homemade rack?
please give me all the websites to find the heat tapes, thermostat, etc...
thank you!

You'll want a proportional tstat with a night drop option (helix or herpstat ) or if your room is warm enough (82-84) you can just use a tstat and an inexpensive appliance timer to shut off the heat at night. As far as light, depends how the lights are set up in your room. You can put a timer on them..

Along with the Helix, you'll need a night drop cable that plugs into the Helix, and a small appliance timer. Plug the night drop cable into the appliance timer, and program the timer to go on during the drop period. As soon as the Helix gets current from the night drop cable, it will drop the temps to the programed drop temp.

you bet! until they give me a reason not to! lol
the helix and heat tape is money well spent. it will save you a few headaches and keep your temps right on...
for ball pythons a rack setup with a good stat is the way to go.
btw, i do hvac for a living, i could easily rig up a stat that "could work ok" and for a lot less than the price of a proportional. i buy the proportional stats because i think they are better for me and my herps in the long run.

Re: Breeding plans and questions
You can also get heat tape and Helix from ReptileBasics.com - Rich is a great guy as well! That's where I got my Helix from. Matt doesn't carry them, or didn't last time I checked.

Rich is a super guy. I just met him at the White Plains show and he was very cool!

Re: Breeding plans and questions
Go with the Herpstats. Cheaper and basically "plug and play" with no problems.
