    Unexpected Surprise

The other day my aunt, who came to visit from Utah, found a half frozen Russian tortoise in some bushes near my parents house. She knew that I had a couple years experience with tortoises, so she gave it to me. Poor little guy, his eyes were wattering, and he was a little sluggish, but considering the wet cold weather here in western Oregon this time of year he looks pretty good. His breathing sounds clear, and today he had a little bit of an attitude while I was cleaning him up. He's in the Sulcata tortoises room now basking under the UVB/heat lamp, and seems to be doing pretty good. I just can't believe that he was still alive. What I can't believe even more though is that someone was careless enough to either let him escape, or turn him loose because they didn't want him any more. Hopefully this will turn out good for me and the little guy. I'll be taking him to the vet probably tomorrow for a check up.

Oh how kind of you to take him in and work to get him back on the road to full health. Rescue is so rewarding isn't it! Please do post some pics of him when you get a chance, I know we'd all love to follow along with his progress over time.
