    fishiness..

Here are our aquariums I've been meaning to post for awhile..

First, my boyfriend's old 125g tank.. (old because it is now mine! muwawah!)he had a few Oscars in it. Well, he found new homes for all but one, and I have slowly been adding things, and it is all working out great somehow. There is now one albino Oscar, three koi, one shubunkin goldfish, four clawed frogs, one footlong pleco, and one syndontis cat, as well as a livingstoni cichlid and a red tip in here. Now, before you get enraged, know that the tank is heated and the koi don't seem to mind; I feed a mix of foods, both meat and plant based, and handfeed the Oscar his predator pellets while the koi gobble the plant based flakes. And everyone gets a dose of fresh feeder fish (rosy reds) a few times a week. Oh I forgot MegaFood; she is a giant mostly-white GF that grew up in an outdoor pond; I bought her last fall when the guy was closing up the pond. She is nearly a foot long! I know this is a very odd assortment, but it has been up and running for over 2 years like this with occasional additions (no more..) and the first sign of trouble, the offender would be removed (no trouble yet.) See, Oscars are aggressive, as are livingstoni, but when they are kept singly (no others of their species) it can work.

    Mega-Food, Oscar and Shubunky

    Vampyric koi!!

I also have two 55g tanks with various fancier goldfish; here they are.
The kitchen tank... orange/black oranda, black moors, more.

    The bedroom tank

Angelous.. I got him from my friend's shop.. he is my favorite fish.

Awesome! I dont have any fish right now but have always had them. I got rid of my 90 gallon when I left NYC. I love Oscars!! And don't worry about having the Goldfish in heated water. They can handle it just fine.

    Re: fishiness..

Thanks; I was a little worried about posting the pics cuz many people would give me grief about mixing in that tank; but honestly I see no ill effects. Two of the koi are coming out soon; I basically got them for free last spring as two-inchers, planned to grow them up and sell them at my friend's pet store, since people with ponds are always looking for them. They are kinda taking over the tank, and I know they need something bigger, but I may just keep one.
I already have corrupted my 1.5 year old niece; everytime she comes over she is mesmerised by the fish. My sister had to get her a little tank and you can say "where are the fishies?" and she points to them!

Haha..I actually started my working career as a fish specialist, first at a small family owned store and then at Petco (way back in the day). I have often kept goldfish is near tropical temp tanks with no ill effects.

Beautiful! I love that last fishy, too. If I had one of those, I'd name him Rocky 'cause he looks like he's been boxing! LOL

    Re: fishiness..

lol; you mean his eyes? He's just a Telescope Eye, basically a weird mutant goldfish.

Jamie, I am glad you know what I am talking about here. Many people would want to browbeat me for keeping GFs with tropicals; it is weird. The funny thing about this tank is, we have never had to add a heater. It must be the way it's situated in the house, near some heating vents and a wall with a chimney vent; it stays around 73 degrees year round.
Mere is Mark standing by it to give an idea of the size:

Here's a better pic; moved my big croton plant to get a better view My man built the stand out of 2x4s and plywood.

Looking good! Tropicals can adapt to cooler temperatures and Goldfish can adapt to warmer.

    Re: fishiness..

I duno; it took a lot of pursuasion to get my boyfriend to "allow" my koi into his Oscar tank; then again, it is really his only stronghold in the house, as far as pets are concerned; the other 2 tanks are mine. I think, thoug, that any pet belongs to the person who cleans up after it/cleans its home; in that case, they're all mine :/

    Re: fishiness..

Ack at Oscars. They're adorable, but when my sister used to have them, they actually ate each other. Weird.

    Beautiful setup and BEAUTIFUL fishies.
