Breeding plan
What do you think of this, I was thinking to get a het pied male, and a couple of normal females, then breed them to the male, and eventually breed the female offsprings to the het male, I think inbreeding at this point is still safe, and with some luck maybe get some visuals. 2-3 year plan.

Re: Breeding plan
Sounds like a good plan....that is actually one of my many plans
Planning 2-3 years for a het male project does not seem too realistic of a timeline unless you have a some adult normal females. Do you have some adult females already or do you plan on picking up some?

Re: Breeding plan
Yeah, sounds like 2-3 is feasible if you have breedable age females and a male right now. Otherwise 4-6 is more likely.

Re: Breeding plan
good advice, get the girls first. i had a dozen or so girls growing up here, before i even bought a male snake. it also gives you time to find the right males for you. things tend to go smoother when you take your time and plan things out.

Re: Breeding plan
Awesome!! Send some of them over here, will ya!? I need about 10 more. I noticed Top Shelf has adult female imports available for $99. Interesting..I doubt I would go that route but its always an option.

Re: Breeding plan
you couldn't give me an adult import girl! when it is all said and done i would rather spend the money and get cb girls that are strong feeders and problem free.
the girls i'm raising ain't leaving! lol there is too much time and feeders in them! lol. everything has a price though. j/k
back to imports, i think imports are good for new blood and some dinking projects. but for the average herper i think 99% of the time they are too much headache. you would need several years under your belt, alot of patience!!! a solid quarantine room, money for vet visits, and 2-3 yrs. time to get them properly acclimated. but on the flip side they are cheap and you could buy 10-20 of them and roll the dice. that ain't my thing though. i'm sure they are alot of people that buy import adults, breed the heck out of them and hope for the best and throw their losses in the freezer!
i think "what goes around comes around" nature has a way of dealing with things.

If you were to buy 20 of those, you might get one to breed this fall ... maybe. Then next year, you might get a second to breed ... maybe. Then over the next 5 years, you might convince another one.
My guess would be that you'd lose at least 4, maybe 5 from that 20.

Re: Breeding plan
I'll give you a crisp new $20 bill for a couple of those females!
I agree completely. I am not interested in the problems that imports could bring. I wish I had more females, but I can afford to take my time and grow up my babies. This coming season ill have at least 3 girls ready to go, the next year another 3 and who knows what I will pick up between now and then.
