    Re: The Shedding Process

The tank humidity is between 50 and 55, but in his moist hide, the walls are sweating, so near 100, I guess. I can raise tank a bit if I need to.

    Thanks for reassurance.

It wouldn't hurt to get the humidity up to about 70-80

    Re: The Shedding Process

My ball python is in shedding but it seems to be going on for quite a while. She did not do a full shed it seems to just be coming off in little pieces im not sure if this is normal or something i should be worried about she also seems to be having some trouble on her face around her eyes mostly. What can i do to help her if anything?

Add a humid hide. They are simple and I have never seen a bad shed if one is provided.

    Don't hold your breath

They're all so very different in these matters .

Best thing to do when yours shows the signs - eyes go a creamy / blue-ish colour and the snakes colour seems to fade quite noticeably plus it disappears away for days on end - then it's time to spray the Viv two or three times each day until it shows itself ( you'll probably find the messy , rolled up lump of skin UNDER his hide afterwards ) .

Note they get their colour back and the eyes clear a few days BEFORE the skin actually comes off .

    Thumbs up

This is actually super helpful. I've been looking everywhere for pictures like this as I am a very new ball python owner and I have a suspicion that my snake is beginning to go into shed. I noticed a very slightly pink belly today and duller skin and less activity. Though, he did eat for me yesterday. Much appreciated, thank you.

    Sheds are so weird.
Seems like when the eyes cloud up and the skin gets dull, that the shed should just take place but NOOOO, it totally fools you!
    So wacky

    Re: The Shedding Process

This is a great article!!! I've been keeping ball pythons since 2009, so i'm fairly familiar with the process, but I was actually looking for something like this for my brother who is pretty new to the hobby. I just wanted to say thanks for writing the article, it's a perfect start for those just getting into our beloved hobby.
