I don't know if that's a good weight for that size burm or not....but I'd love to see pics! How did you come to the conclusion that it weights 40-50 pounds? Is he tame enough for you to hold and step on a bathroom scale to weight and then subtract your weight without the snake? That would let you know for sure how much he weighs.

Well, it sure doesn't sound underfed. That's a really hard question. Is it male or female? Females get MUCH girthier than males. Mike Wilbanks ( www.constrictors.com )has a female albino that is about 16-18 ft long, and weighs over 225lbs. Bob Clark has a female 'tic named "Fluffy" who's 20+ ft long weighing over 300lbs. But I've seen 14ft male tics that weighed 50lbs and were healthy. You might want to go to some of the bigger boid forums and check out the pics, see how yours compares visually.

***Edit*** I looked at the pic you have posted on your original thread about this guy, and he looks healthy to me .

    Re: healthy burm weight

From that pic you posted, that snake sure doesn't look 40-50lbs. I used to carry around a burm almost twice that size, and you can sure bet it didn't weigh 100lbs.

I'd have it weighed. I'm curious now.

    Re: healthy burm weight

A healthy weight for him? Wow, that's tough. At 7ft...........I'm guessing 15lbs, 20 max. And that's a wild a$$ guess. Look at the size of his head in comparison to the rest of his body, if his head looks too small or too large for his body, he may be over/under fed. In the one pic you have of him, he looks good to me, but that isn't the best pic to try and judge from. If you have or can get other pics, post them.

Other than obvious signs of neglect or poor husbandry (dirty cage, multiple retained sheds, wheezing/whistling breathing caused by RI) it's hard to "Look" for signs of ill health in a snake. I'd recommend you take him for a vet visit a soon as you can to check for internal parasites, etc. In the meantime, keep him quarantined away from your other scale kids.

    Re: healthy burm weight

He looks healthy weight-wise to me.

To give you an idea of healthy weight.. my 7' 4" dumerils boa is 21 lbs and very healthy. She is quite heavy bodied.. as most dumerils are. Burmese typically are relatively more slender than dums. I just don't see that snake being 40-50 lbs.

Here's a pic of the 21 lb snake.
