    water bottom?

how much time do cresties spend on the bottom of the tank? could you have a water environment on the bottom and as long as you have the hanging food dishes so they have a place to eat... would they be happy living on the vines and branches of the viv?

or do you need a substrate like coconut or moss?

I'm by far a crestie expert, but I notice mine on the ground quite frequently. In fact, he stays all day in a little hide on the ground and loves to bury himself in the aspen. I keep telling him he's supposed to be arboreal, but he's not buying it. My biggest concern with a water bottom, would be drowning.

    Re: water bottom?

cresteds aren't swimmers and babies can actually drown in their water dish if it is too big/deep. some of my cresteds spend a pretty good amount of time on the bottom, some don't. all have pretty much the same setup, so i guess it just depends on the gecko. i'd have to recommend that you not go with water on the bottom of your crested enclosure. red eyes on the other hand would like it quite a bit.

ditto on the above, i wouldn't do a water bottom either for cresteds. a salamander, newt, water frog, dart frog, turtle might do well.

    Re: water bottom?

well we don't want to go with the red eyed frogs because they are so sensitive...miss a feeding and they can die AND it would be up to a year before they could live in that size of viv... so i need to keep them elsewhere for that long... and i really don't want to start up another viv for a year.

    thanks for the info everyone.

and christie, it's good to know you are "by far a crestie expert"
