    Jungle Carpet Pythons

Well my aspirations for an Anaconda were crushed by that stupid, yet understandable, law. So if I do go to PA depending on the rest of the college stuff, I'll get one then. ANYWAYS, once I get in the mode for a new snake it is hard to quell. I've always loved the Carpet Pythons for their colors and such. Can anyone refer to me some excellent care sheets or personal knowledge? I've found some sheets, but I don't really trust them lol Thanks in advance!

EDIT- Sorry mods I didn't see the morelia forum before I posted this! Sorry!

Yes jungle carpets and diamonds are different. Diamond pythons are pricier and harder to keep.. I believe they are different subspecies of morelia spilota (diamond is morelia spilota spilota, jungle carpet is morelia spilota cheynei). Kind of like the difference between a BCC and a BCI boa.

    Re: Jungle Carpet Pythons

yeah, diamonds (despite their latin name) are much different from carpet pythons.

the care of M.s.cheynei (jungle), M.s.mcdowelli (coastal), M.s.variegata (iryan jaya)and M.s.bredli (centralian) is all pretty similar. they're all hardy species and have very basic requirements as far as heat and humidity; where as diamond pythons (Morelia s. spilota) and green tree pythons (Morelia viridis)are not suitable for a beginner.

basically they need moderate humidity and temps ranging from the mid-70's to the mid-80's. they're nocturnal and don't do a whole lot during the day generally. all the ones i've been around were mean when they were young but the coastal i currently have calmed down after just a couple weeks of regular handling... he's still a little flightly but at least he doesn't bite or smear cloacal contents when i pick him up.
