Thinking of getting another carpet python.
I have been thinking lately about getting another carpet, I was thinking about a Diamonds, Irian Jaya, Coastal, or maybe a Tiger (dont really know the price on the tiger). Has anyone ever delt with any of these?

I have a young coastal - it's a bit mellower than the JCP of the same size, eats like a champ and has that cool knucklehead.
What do you have now? JCP?
Want me to move this into Morelia?

I have a big (well not that big) female diamond x jungle carpet. Sure you can move it, I wasnt too sure where to put it.

All I can tell you is that diamond pythons are pricey. Over $1000.. but man are they GORGEOUS. Definitely on my 'future time when I have more money' list.

Re: Thinking of getting another carpet python.
honestly i've seen plenty of diamonds for well under $1000 (especially males)... and believe me i've looked at every one i could find in the last 4 months. that said, i ended up getting a nice, pure mcdowelli (coastal) - the cheapest of morelia. one thing i can tell you is this is the most aggressive snake i've ever handled (good thing for me he's only 18-24" long)! that's just this one though... and i'm confident he'll mellow out.
personally, the more i look at coastals the more i like them. they're large, hardy, have a nicely shaped head (that's the number one asthetic quality i look at in snakes), and eat like there's no tomorrow. this spring i'm going to get a female hypo jaguar (i have the name of the breeder somewhere) to breed this one with... i can't wait.

It may have been a pair price I was thinking of on the diamonds.. $2500. Still, not an inexpensive animal.

Wow I didnt know diamonds were that price, mine is diamond x jungle and she was only $100, why would someone breed a Diamond that is worth more to a jungle that is not that high? I was considering maybe getting a carpet from Reptilicus Reptiles.

Re: Thinking of getting another carpet python.
Diamond pythons are fabulous looking, but the diamond x jungle crosses I've seen look much more like a jungle carpet.. they lose that special something that the diamond has. I honestly don't know why they breed those hybrids.

Re: Thinking of getting another carpet python.
I don't know much about the prices as we don't buy.
(I can give you an estimate on their vet bills thou..lol)
But as for temperment all the carpets we've had in were basically the same.
The adult female diamond, the adult coastal, and the adult female jungle all were mellow. I wouldn't allow the kids at the educational shows to hold them out right but they are allowed to touch the backs while I am holding the snake.
The babies we've had (coastals, and jungles) have been the same, a bit nippy but calm down with familiarity and routine.
Which ever you may decide let us know.
Thanks
Rusty

I thought I had already posted this pic (sorry - losing it in my dotage)
Prelude to a Nip
Both our coastal and jungle juvies fit the "nippy" stereotype.
