Pure Black
How much work is it to create a new morph. I am interested in creating a pure black crestie. I know that it would take many years of work, but would there be a market for them. Seeing what there doing with balls I am hoping that some of the same stuff happens with cresties.

Re: Pure Black
You could definitely create a market for a black crestie. Its all supply and demand, if you only have one, and find someone that REALLY wants it...bam you have yourself a market.
The breeding aspect to try and "create" a new morph would be difficult, as many of the morphs out there are mutations in pattern that are selectively bred. I guess you'd have to come across some really hyper-melanistic cresteds and keep line breeding them darkest babies back to the father...if it works the same way eventually you should come really close to black.

Re: Pure Black
I have found one female that is really dark, I'm emailing all the breeders that I know of to see if anyone has any dark females.

Re: Pure Black
Good little site on the black cresties. And amazingly enough I was correct in my guess on what it would take to produce blacks. That crestie is crazy looking!
The Black Line crested project was started several years back. Myself (Bobby Pruett) and Mike Conley started working with the darkest cresteds we could find in hopes of producing a Black Crested. We finally did it and have been trying to keep the lines going and also out crossing the lines to keep them strong.
