canadian mouseman
in a few weeks i will be switching my BP to FT rats. pet stores in my area are crazy with the prices they charge so i am thinking about ordering some online. The best place i have found so far is www.canadianmouseman.com
anybody ever deal with them before?
i am also concerned about shipping becaise i live on the east coast in New Brunswick and the rats will be coming from Alberta. How long will rats stay frozen in a insulated box of styrofoam.

We've always ordered from Rodent Pro. If the rodents are packed in dry ice, as they should be, with insulation, they'll stay frozen for several days. The only problem is you have to pay shipping charges based on the weight of the dry ice, too.

Re: canadian mouseman
I would give them a phone call and ask about this. We live way up in northern Michigan and got an order of frozen rodents in from a company in Texas a few months back which is quite a distance. It came overnight FedEx. I ordered them Monday at about 11 a.m., they were in my hands at my front door by noon Tuesday and frozen quite solid.
Give them a call and ask how they ship and package and I'm quite sure they can advise you if their product would make it to you still frozen. If not, perhaps you can contact someone like Markus Jayne by email and they might be able to advise you on what frozen rodent supplier are the best to use in Canada, particularily on the east coast.

Re: canadian mouseman
thanks. on there site they say that they ship in a insulated package. I think they siad it was insulated with pink styro foam and for longer shipments they place in blue freeze packs. they also say that using 2 works best but they are 1.50 a piece. would be worth the extra 3 bucks i am sure.
how can i reach this Markus Jayne?

Re: canadian mouseman
If you google for their site online they should have a contact number or an email address as they are a pretty major breeder in Ontario. Be patient though as this is a busy time for any breeder right now.

thanks for the info. Ontario is a heck of a lot closer than Alberta.

Re: canadian mouseman
No problem, glad to be of help. I've emailed a couple of times with them (my hometown is very close to where their operation is in Ontario) and they seem like nice folks so hopefully they can steer you to a good supplier for your feeder rodents.
