green snake

I have been searching all over for another snake. The only thing that's been keeping me back is that mice and rats get expensive. I didn't want a garter snake because I can just find them around here. Finally, I found a green snake for $15 at reptilecity.com. It says that they don't release that odor stuff as much as the other small snakes. Is this a good snake overall?

Most snakes in time will get use to you and stop musking. I use to have a brown snake and he was no problem.

Does anyone know if I would be able to house two green snakes in one cage, or would they get too stressed?

green snakes are kind of needy and sensitive... they dry out really easily is the biggest problem. they may not musk, but they writhe and snap when handled - at least all the ones i've seen. you should just get a couple female mice and a male mouse. before you know it, you'll have 19 mice! at least that's what's happened to me in the last 3-1/2 weeks.

Don't keep green snakes together.

They are delicate.. not as much is known about their husbandry as with other snakes. They are very flighty and fast, though I haven't known them to bite.

Don't worry about the musking with other species.. as was said before, as they calm down and get used to you, they won't musk. My baby colubrids rarely musk.. only if they feel threatened.

I keep a Durango Mountain Kingsnake that musked me every time I picked it up when it was a hatchling. The older and bigger he got, the less he musked. He's now almost 2 years old, and he never musks anymore.

I know a person who has a rough green snake, they dont really handle him/her, its kinda a display snake only. The people are actaully friends of my mom (they own the dog kennel we board our dogs at when we go on vacation) The last time i saw the snake is when they asked me to drop by and give them some pinkies for the snake. Im pretty sure a big part of thier diet consists of crickets. they really like to be in the trees and up off the ground.

oh one more thing that i don't think anyone mentioned is that they require UVB!
