Reptile-Ish Digital Artwork (AI Assisted)
Greetings!
Those of you who keep track of my Snakes and Stones thread may have noticed at one point that I was attempting to build a Ball Python orientated AI model using my images with Stable Diffusion (v1.5). My original efforts were ineffective due to the same issue that plagues AI generation of human hands (near infinite positions in 3-Dimensional space).
Stable Diffusion (SD) v1.5 is a bit outdated at this point. There have been two notable generations of updates, Ver. XL (SDXL) and then 'updated' to Ver. 3 (SD3). I was planning on building an add-on model for SD3 (as I have a new computer), however, for whatever reason Stability.AI has not released the coding 'weights' for their most advanced version...so I wait (as of 07OCT2024).
Meanwhile, I have been experimenting with SDXL for reptile-type image generation. It performs a lot better than SD1.5 (of which example images are on my profile), however, SDXL (like 1.5) still needs constant manual digital revision to correct issues.
I wanted to share one of the techniques (simplified) I use to create images.
1. I draw a rough sketch of what I want and write a matching prompt:
2. I run it through an AI filter on a 'low noise setting' a few times and pick the closest match to what I want.
3. I make revisions and add any type of colored pixels that I can use the program to reshape.
4. I specifically select and alter anything I don't like, or want improved (via in-painting).
5. I add stuff, manually fix anything that the AI cannot get right, render at high resolution, color correct, and finally watermark.
Ironically, many AI groups consider my method to be 'cheating' (as they are manually shaped/altered digitally).
A lot of people just type in a prompt and generate an image and then post it online. Artistic venues are absolutely flooded with these first generation 'AI' images-which I refer to as 'rough drafts'. These rough drafts compose about 99% of what I find on AI sites. It is mind-boggling, but, there are people who upload hundreds/thousands of these images/day/every day.
I myself am rather tired of seeing rough draft AI images, but, if you would like me to post some of my finished reptile-themed ones (minus the storyboarding)-I will be happy to do so.

Absolutely! I love your work.

I will say that your prompt results did come back better than most I've seen.
As an artist... I'm disappointed to see this here.
I can't really stand by AI because so many people had their work used without permission for training. There's a large lawsuit going because of this. And others have lost jobs so that they can hire prompters to just spit out results instead of having artists concept things for them.
I have aphantasia so I need to work hard at my craft to get the results I want.

This 100%. As an artist and art professor I feel exactly the same and cannot get behind AI generated “artwork” at all. I will refrain from elaborating any further on my very strong opinions regarding this and just say that I side with Armiyana.

Please continue to post. If an artist cannot make a living while modern tools exist, then they should not make a living as an artist.

If there is going to be AI created images posted regularly here, then I will no longer be here either.
@gobuchul AI art is a detriment to the art industry, not a 'modern tool'. Stealing thousands of images to train a computer to be able to create your work is disgusting. There's no merit to it. If you can't afford a luxury you don't steal it.
AI imagery is so pervasive already that actual medical journals now have to deal with the slop created being used as illustrations and making no sense because they don't have an actual artist on hand to fix the mistakes.
The only bright side to it would be seeing that AI art cannot be copyrighted, an artist can come along and take that AI art and recreate it into a new work with a copyright.

From what I read above: I think it is awful that people are being *forced* to view this post.
I will refrain from displaying any additional digital artwork until these individuals learn how to control their web browsers.

I think I’m done here too. Not because of AI “artwork” being displayed but due to the dramatic decline in the quality of conversation shared here. Unrecognizable compared to the forum I joined 8.5yrs ago.Done feeding the trolls.

I think it's the responsibility of medical journal publishers to make a quality product. If AI cannot do that, then they must employ artists. If they do not, then rational people will not buy their journals. I also don't believe in intellectual property, so the art theft argument is not compelling to me.
I agree that artists editing AI images (which is clearly what this very thread is about...) is good.
