    Humidity

As we enter a heatwave this week, my roommate has decided it's time to start saving the planet by turning off the AC. I'll negotiate to keep the room temp below 80, but I want to know how far I have to take things over humidity.

With the AC cooling to 72-74, my room humidity has been about 60%. Under these conditions, my enclosure humidity has been 70%. The substrate is dry and there is no condensation. With the room at 78, humidity is currently 71% in the room and 77% in the enclosure.

I had been meaning to replace part of the lid with a screen, and I'll do that right away now. I know even 70% is above the recommended 50-60%, should I do battle over the room humidity? If I can get the enclosure humidity to match the room it's no worse off than it was before, but I recognize that my prior inaction on the screen top may have been sub-optimal.

I'm sure I sound a lot more irritated here than I should, and I apologize. I get along well with my roommate and agreeing on the ac won't be an issue.

Here's my lazy mesh implementation until I modify the lid. Look secure enough? The clamps are strong, but I'll have to be careful to make sure the fabric is tight each time.

No. The fabric's too flexible. Your BP will push its way out easily.

Right... I'll keep the lid on while out of the room for now.

No. Just keep monitoring it. Heat waves come and go. A temporary spike in humidity won't do you BP any harm.

I've had to add some paper towels to a couple of my tubs last week because of a humidity spike. Just a quick way for me to kinda absorb and remove the excess water in the bedding.

I agree a quick spike in humidity shouldn't be too bad. Just make sure that you are spot cleaning more often in case of bacteria or fungal growth. I'll also mix the bedding again when I spot check to kinda balance out the problem spots and the drier spots.
