    Older Boas 10 Years Plus.

The snakes kept by members of this board all have potential to live long, healthy lives.

I want to dedicate this tread to boa constrictors BCI (BI) , BCC (BC) and BCO that are 10 years old or older. Post photos and some background on your animal. Feel free to include caging setups, feeding processes and other things you do to keep your animal healthy and long lived.

I'll start the show with the most recent picture of my snake and a little bit of info about him.

Sniper is a 12 year old, Barranquilla locality BCI (BI). He was produced by Gus Rentfro at Rio Bravo Reptiles. Sadly, Rio Bravo closed its doors to public sales and Gus doesn't appear on the boards. Gus is a world authority on boa constrictors. This guy was born June, 27 2012 and I acquired him from Legacy Reptiles April 23, 2013.

Sniper has been in 3 different cages since I started caring for him and now he's in a 6' x 30" x 2' cage. He eats monthly usually but sometimes every 21 days. He gets the winter off and he's been a great pet.

A young Sniper. Photo: Courtesy of Gus Rentfro at Rio Bravo Reptiles.

Here he is June 28 2024.

I look forward to seeing some older boa additions to this thread. I'm not sure how many members have them and I know this portion of the board has been less active than it was years ago.

If you have one, (boa constrictor) post up and and let us hear about it.

Barranquillas are such cool boas. Yours is looking great. I’ll add my contribution to this thread in 4yrs and 9days when my Argentine girl has her 10th bday. She’s 6yo this month

I'm not certain this thread will generate much.

I wish it would, but the board is understandably dedicated to the Royal Python and the majority of members are not boa constrictor keepers.

Maybe we'll see some older members check in and post pictures but based on activity over the last few years, I don't know if the current boa crowd has anything in the double digits.

Sniper is one gorgeous critter Gio and he’s clearly well loved and cared for. Neither of my boas have hit double digits yet either but we’ll get there (knock on wood) 😀. My BI is 7 and my BCO just turned 6 in June. I do have a couple of bullsnakes and carpets that are 10. They were among the first snakes I purchased when I got back into the hobby after a long hiatus.

One nice thing about the reptile hobby is meeting people with the same interests.

Years ago on a forum dedicated to boa constrictors, I met a person that I am still friends with today. Somebody with a lot of knowledge and a collection of beautiful boas.

Thanks to "BNS" I can continue this thread.

He was not able to upload the pictures here so I will post them and turn the comments over to him.

This/these are Pokigron BC (BCC). Some of the most beautiful boas I've ever seen. They meet the "older boas" theme here and I'm excited to see what BNS has to say about these boas.

I could have snatched one of these up but I decided to replace my coastal carpet with another. I wish I could add one more!

To clarify, my first coastal passed and the new one has been talked about here for a long while.

Re: Older Boas 10 Years Plus.

Thanks, friend, for posting those pictures and the pictures of your beautiful stud.

Most folks post photos of their boas in top form, the big girl in this photo has eaten twice this year and is not in top form. She had a fabulous litter of 19 boas in mid-July and I don't feed them while courting or gravid. If you go back to her last meal before these two...she has had three meals since October.

She is an 18-year-old F1 Pokigron Suriname boa. The photo of the last third of body shows her laterals and tail darkening. This is how they develop as they age. The 3-year-old boa in this photo shoot is a pretty close representation of what mom looked like at that age but unfortunately the photos don't capture the true redness of her tail. The baby has had one shed and I wanted that thrown in just for size and color reference as all photos were all taken in the same spot. I wanted to get a photo of the old man but he is deep in shed and I don't mess with them in shed.

Glad to see your critters here Bns. If that’s what she looks like after a litter and three meals in 9 months then I’m sure she’s incredible in her prime. I’d love to add Pokis back to the collection here, but gotta stay focused for a while and keep with the projects I’m growing up and working on currently. Congrats on another litter!

Thank you for the thread, Gio.

Two more years for Behira. She turned 8 in June. She will be waiting.

Going Postal How Is The Suri?

    Going Postal,,,,,,

Your Suri has to be at least 10 years old.

Forgive me if the snake has passed and I didn't know.

If not, this would be a great slot for some pictures of that one!

Re: Older Boas 10 Years Plus.

Yes my Suriname I believe is 11 or 12 now, my Dumerils is nine so I guess he can't participate lol. I think I've only gotten a couple photos this year, it's getting harder and harder to find the ambition to lug them downstairs and outside on the rare nice day my grass is mowed and the weather is decent. He's definitely filling out and looking more adult, not just a string bean. Eating small rabbits and med/large rats every 2-4 weeks depending on various factors.
