I have no particular expertise in this area. I believe infections are much more likely to transfer between individuals of the same species than different species. So, if you take the same precautions that you would use to keep infecting another human, that should be sufficient to keep you from infecting your snake.

I'm pretty sure it depends heavily on exactly what pathogen you're dealing with. So if you don't know for sure, take precautions. (Some can be contagious, but not all.)
As a precaution, I'd avoid close contact with your snake while you're sick- especially wash your hands very well before tending your snake, don't sneeze or cough on him, & keep him away from your face (don't breathe on him, either thru your nose or your mouth). Avoid all unnecessary handling (or being close to him) while you're sick.

A doctor could swab & test to see what you're dealing with. If it's "chronic" maybe it's time to find out- there might be an antibiotic to help clear it out for good, & once you know what it is, you can research to see if your snake(s) might also be able to catch it.

There are not any respiratory illnesses I am aware of that can transmit from human to snake.
Like Bogertophis mentioned, common-sense precautions like washing your hands before and after handling should be sufficient.
