HELP!!!! New hatchling looks to have a prolapse
Don't know where to post this so putting it here. Admin move it if it's in the wrong spot. My newest hatchling is the only survivor of a very difficult clutch. He just crawled out of the shell and he looks to have a prolapse intestine. Someone please look at it and tell me what this is and what I can do or should do to help him?

As scary as that looks, that's the umbilical cord.
Keep them on damp, clean paper towels and it should heal up and be fine on it's own. I don't think you'll need to do anything like tying it off. Maybe just a little sitting in a quarter inch of warm water if it looks too dirty or anything.
The bulge around the middle there is a bit concerning, sometimes it's from that last rush of absorbed yolk, which what little is left seems to be at the end of that cord.. It should hopefully go down over the next 2 or 3 days. If it feels dense and hard, that may be a trip to the vet and could be a case or hard belly. It's an issue with unabsorbed yolk congealing into a hard mass in the belly cavity that may not pass normally in stools

Thank you both. I needed the reassurance. My husband's first reaction was we need to cull it so I needed a calm opinion.
