    Re: BP tempatures okay?

The hot side is now 86°F with a 88°F basking spot, the cool side is 75°F,
And the ambient tempature is 80°F.

Currently I'm using forest floor cypress mulch.
This Monday I'm switching to Josh's frogs coco husk chips.

Here is the enclosure, there are 6 hides in total for her. This Monday she's getting a rock hide/basking area, new substrate, and a couple of wood hides/enrichment.

Eventually I will get her a 4x2x2 PVC enclosure, this is only temporary.

It's a screen top, I keep a damp towel on top and it seems to hold humidity well.

    The humidity stays between 65-70℅

    Re: BP tempatures okay?

Great job on the hot side. 75F is much better for the cool side, but I'd still want it a few degrees higher.

A few things on the setup. I would use snugger/smaller hides and would get the plastic ones I showed a link to. They are cheap and easy to clean. With a high hide like you have with the cardboard, it's going to be harder for the heat to reach the ground where your BP is. Additionally, those hides probably won't make your BP feel as secure as it would like.

I would use a larger, deeper, water bowl as well. Will help with humidity. Additionally, those edgy and porous bowls, like the one you are using, are difficult to clean.

You want something like this: https://www.reptilebasics.com/large-water-bowl

The link above is for a large bowl, but you can get a medium and probably be okay. The more surface area the better for humidity.

Reading your humidity, I would want it 50-60% most of the time and higher for shedding. 60-65% is okay, but 70% is a little higher than I would like. Too much humidity isn't ideal, similar to not enough. Both can be detrimental but for different reasons. For now, I wouldn't worry too much about the humidity - maybe take the damp cloth off and put either a non-damp cloth or some aluminum foil folded tight over the top. Cloths can be dangerous with heat lamps - FYI. Aluminum foil can handle much higher temps and beyond anything you could produce with a lamp.

    Re: BP tempatures okay?

I have two small bowls on opposite sides of the enclosure.
I'll definitely look into getting those water bowls.

Those two larger hides have substrate inside of them so it's more cozy for her.
But I have 4 coconut hides scattered around the enclosure for her to use.

I totally agree with dakski about those tall cardboard hides- way too tall- BPs like "back pressure" -ie. a low ceiling so they feel snug inside- only one doorway that's not oversized, & enough space for them to curl up inside, but not much more than that. I'd simply cut those down to size, slightly higher than your snake's body.

To put it another way, BPs want the opposite of what humans admire in magazines like House Beautiful, with those large homes, wide dramatic doorways & high ceilings- lol. Think 'cave' or hollowed out log, or inside an old abandoned termite mound (which is actually something they do seek out & live in, in Africa).

    Re: BP tempatures okay?

Okay thank you, I'll be sure to cut them down so they're more snug for her.
