    Book Recommendations

anyone by chance have good references for books on reptilian veterinary care specific to snakes? (will settle for “general reptile care” but i am really looking for snake specific care) - many thanks in advanced

(note: i do have a local vet i can see that is open to treating large constrictors with keeper supervision however i still would like to know this stuff for myself)

    I started to list the same one ^ ^ ^ but it's not snake-specific, per OP's request.

i’ll totally general reptile stuff i was just hoping for snake specific stuff - most ideal would be stuff specific to large constrictors (Burms, afrocks, etc) but i figure that’s probably few and far between given the specificity lol so I’ll take whatever i can get!

The information in Maders is specific to each of the clades of non-avian reptiles as necessary. It isn't exclusively about snakes, if that's what you mean, but little of the information is "general" (except chapters like 'Disinfection', but there aren't any disinfection protocols unique to snakes). Some chapters of course do address all members of Reptilia ('Virology', 'Thermal Burns') but do specify taxa as such is relevant (the viruses carried by snakes are mostly different than those carried by turtles, and this is pointed out clearly). Many chapters are exclusively about snake medicine ('Snake A&P', 'Snake Radiography', 'Snake Coeliotomy', 'Snake Cryptosporidiosis', 'Differential Diagnoses in Snakes', and others).

Given that reptile health and medicine is something of an emerging discipline, and many issues are pretty newly identified and not well studied (like, all the novel snake viruses), much research has to be done with primary sources. On these, a textbook will be a resource for orientation, but not for details.
