DIY Shipping Heat Packs???

Hi, so, I just sold a leopard gecko on MorphMarket. He's supposed to be going to MO, and the temps there are gonna get pretty low. Obviously I should use a heat pack, but I didn't realize that I didn't have any. So, I know I can't use hand warmers, but I was thinking... Water holds heat really well. What if I take some of the cricket gel that I use for giving crickets water, and heat it up? Will it last long enough/stay warm enough/not get too hot? I can also see where it could turn into a cold pack if it cools down enough, so would that be more harmful than helpful?

This is for hand warmers, but they are not the same kind of hand warmers you buy from the store, and the chemical reaction is completely different. Think these will work?

It's way too cold to ship to Missouri right now.

Call the buyer and let them know you'll have to delay shipment until it's warmer. Use that time to get some proper shipping packs.

I think those are wind chills on the map but regardless it's still too cold. The following is from the Ship Your Reptiles website:

Below 38°F: Don’t ship. Wait for warmer weather.

38-69°F: Use a heat pack per our directions.

70-91°F: DO NOT use heat pack.

92-100°F: Ship to a "FedEx Ship Center" facility (NOT a FedEx Office, Pak Mail, Mail Boxes Etc. or other satellite/franchise location). Your shipment will arrive early in the morning and be kept inside until the recipient picks it up. Search for a Fedex staffed facility near you. Read the IMPORTANT NOTE below.*

In addition, shipping at Christmas time is a bad idea. The system is strained with the number of parcels right now. Packages get lost, delayed and damaged. You should wait.

Alright, sounds good. After Christmas the temps are supposed to be much better, so I sent a message to the buyer explaining what's going on. She gets it and is fine to wait until later.

No, they've been predicting temps as low as minus 7° F around St. Louis. The wind chills are going to be in the minus-teens and lower. Of course they can't make up their mind about how much snow we're supposed to get, naturally.

And yes, those frigid below-zero temperatures are NOT even counting the wind-chill factor- it's going to be brutally cold very soon. BRRRRR!
