    Night lighting

I know ball pythons are active at night and likes dark places but does infrared night light works for them too during at night? Which is preferably better infrared bulb or the blue night bulb?

    Thanks!

I don't know. I don't use any lighting, day or night. I just rely on the light in the room. This thread, however, has an informative discussion of night lighting that may help you.

my question would be what is the purpose of the nitelight? because it’s only been relatively recently that nature documentarians have gotten night-vision equipment strong enough to document the wilds of Africa clearly at night - which is to say it gets mighty dark

These are studies you will have to look up on your own. I'm fairly certain there aren't many, if any forum members here actually out in the field doing this type of research.

I found these easily by typing in key words. "Field Study" and "Reptiles" will get you on the right track and obviously the subject matter is equally important.

If you are looking at your setup from a display perspective, there is no harm using a red light or a moonlight for a period of time in the evening.

I use daytime lighting during the day, and then I switch over to moon light for 2-3 hours in the evening and then go black when I'm going to bed. This pattern is for my own enjoyment, however the snakes do tend to move into their nocturnal routines when the brighter daytime lighting goes out and the much dimmer night lighting comes on.

I enjoy the hobby for a number of reasons and having a nice looking display is one of them. The snakes may find a certain amount of stimulation from how the enclosures are set up but they don't care about how anything looks.

When I want to relax and observe.

You may be able to see behaviors you wouldn't observe during the day.

LED strips give you different color options.

That room is without a window so I provide artificial daylight, and as I stated, I use some night lighting for a few hours in the evening.

The bottom line is, daylight and dark are the only phases that matter in a captive environment.

Thank you. Im new to the hobby and much to learn. seeing moonlight blue bulbs branding that they help stimulates metabolism at night and thought it would be beneficial and won't do any harm contrasts to other posts i've seen. A bonus as well its nice to see and observe their activities and behaviour without daylight. I've notice that they've seem to be active before dawn. I also use roon lighting.

Thank you! Same here i just use natural room lighting but at night it would be nice to see your display setup as well simulating night time with the blue bulbs or infrared ones just not sure if it would beneficial or rather do more harm suggesting from the thread discussion also from the facebook group on that. Still thinking if i should use one or not.

I decided to err on the side of caution and leave the lights out of my enclosure, but the room is lit in the evening. I just don't have lights in the enclosure. I usually let my snake out to roam most evenings anyway.

Also, my enclosure is homemade using mostly recycled materials, so, probably, the less light the better. I works well for my snake but it's not exactly beautiful.

Would he prefer to roam around my living room in the dark? Probably. Am I going to let him roam around my living room in the dark? Definitely, not! He's hard enough to keep track of in the light.
