Mating (wild) rat snakes- watch footage

He stops to watch & film them along a bike trail- then becomes part of their "furniture"-

Excellent footage but I don't think he witnessed what he thought.

This looks like two males figuring out who gets the girl...

I've been fortunate to watch a male rat find a female rat in the wild two times...it was an entirely different dance.

Thanks for sharing though. Very cool.

I was thinking the same thing- that it looked more like 2 males doing some combat, but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt since we saw very little of the snake's tails. But you can see how each snake repeatedly tries to dominate the other-pushing down each other's heads. Mating rat snakes are generally far more cooperative- not to mention, successful.

I've bred a few of my rat snakes in the past, & with all that action, they'd have easily been joined up. Either way, it was hilarious that they ended up on his leg, & almost oblivious to his presence.
