    What supplements do you use?

I have always used Herptivite and Repcal calcium for my leos. I always thought that since Herptivite has Beta carotene the geckos could convert it to vitamin A as it needs. Does anyone know anything about beta carotene metabolism specifically in leopard geckos? Thanks.

I searched for "carotene" in the Leopard Geckos forum and came up with this thread. I hope it helps.

I also found this on Google Scholar: Evaluation of β-carotene assimilation in leopard geckos. I only read the abstract, but, if I understand it correctly, they found that Leopard Geckos do a good job of converting beta carotene into vitamin A.

I follow these recommendations as provided by Dr. Scott Stahl of Stahl Exotic Animal Veterinary Services (SEAVS) and co-author of Reptile and Amphibian Medicine and Surgery 3rd edition.

Reptivite (Multivitamin/Vitamin A supplement): Dust food once weekly for juveniles and once every other week for adults.

Reptical (Calcium supplement): Dust food 4-5 times per week for juveniles and 2-3 times per week for adults. Do not use on the same day as ReptiVite.
