    Dont know what to do

Lately, well for a long time ive been thinking about breeding, its always been something i have wanted to do later on down the road when my snakes are ready.

But i have been so confused about what species, right now im only keeping 4 species, Ball pythons, corn snake, a gopher or bull (still havent figured that one out) and a redtail boa.All of them are female exept for the gopher/bull.

There are a couple good and bad things with each species.

So as fellow herpers who probly already have breeding aspirations and/or plans and the animals to carry them out with. Im asking you guys which one would be best to choose.Or which one you would choose. I would like to get into morphs (mainly albinos)

Ill start with the ball pythons. Since they stay pretty small they would not take up much space and my favorite snake in my collection is one of my balls named roxy, and watching her bring a cute little clutch of babies into this world would be so awesome.

The Boas are beautiful snakes and the color morphs are just amazing but for somebody like me who has plans for college, would a breeding pair of boas be the best thing ? Plus they are larger and take up more space.

The corn snakes have such beautiful color morphs and they are all so cheap and easy to find, i have heard that breeding them is considerably easier than most other snakes, and they also stay small and take up very little space

So those are all the thoughts running through my head right , please give me your opinions and help me figure out what species would be best for me

Re: Dont know what to do

Corns and balls are great starting breeding projects.

I wouldn't recommend boas right at first because a female red tail can drop 50 or more babies at a time! Boas are livebearers as well, so you don't have eggs to count and prepare for before they are born like with a corn or ball.

I'm starting my breeding projects with my normal and albino stripe california kings. My dumerils boa could drop some babies too.

Re: Dont know what to do

Hmm very good point, i wasnt thinking about the numbers of babies, thanks for pointing that out.

As far as the boas, wouldent it be easier than incubating all those eggs though ?

A wise man once told me to breed what you love. It won't be fun for you if it seems like a chore and you aren't totally stoked about seeing those heads popping out of the eggs or a sea of baby boas squirming around. Good luck!

Well Brandon.. if you think taking care of 50 baby boas is easier than getting a hovabater and incubating 4-8 ball python eggs, then...

Re: Dont know what to do

if you want what i would do here it is. i would get a het albino male ball pthon for $150 and breed him to roxy. then i would hold back all the females and breedthem to the het albino male.

but, like jaimie said, "breed what you love".

Thanks for all of your opinions guys

As far as breeding what i love......thats super easy, im crazy about all of my snakes , im just thinking more about the technical stuff right now and the ease of species and which one i should invest money in.
